Also this year, for the 25th time ever and for the 24th time in a row, the FEE, International Foundation for Environmental Education, has recognized Tortoreto as deserving of the Blue Flag. The eco-label concerns the entirety of the 4 km of coast of Tortoreto, without any exclusion.

The promenade is spread over four kilometers furnished with palm trees, maritime pines and public gardens and is crossed by a cycle path, the green Adriatic corridor, which connects the coasts of Tortoreto, Giulianova and Alba Adriatica, for over 18 km. it has a very close relationship with the sea under the double economic and cultural aspect. The deepest roots of this bond lie in the seafaring tradition, Tortoretan fishermen are specialized in clam fishing, in paparazze dialect, and in night fishing with lamparas. Waking up at dawn it is easy to meet fishermen returning from their fishing trip on the beach or to see their boats returning to the port of Giulianova. On the other hand, the paparazze are the undisputed protagonists of the clam festival, organized and managed by the fishermen themselves, which is held in August. The tourist vocation of Tortoreto represents the other side of its link with the sea, our town has been able to win over its visitors who have promoted it to the first Abruzzo town in terms of number of visitors during the summer months.

TALL

rises on the hills 250 meters above sea level, its position makes it a privileged observation point. From the Belvedere, a natural terrace to the east, allows you to enjoy a unique panorama that allows you to embrace the coast between the Tronto and Tordino rivers with your eyes. The historic center is surrounded by ancient walls and is divided into a dense cluster of streets, alleys, squares, arches and towers where the dominant color is the red of the terracotta bricks. During the Middle Ages the territory of Tortoreto was a Norman fief, the Palio del Barone, held in August, is the re-enactment of that historical period and represents the marriage between the Baron Roberto da Tortoreto degli Acquaviva di Atri, reign of Frederick II, and Forasteria dei Brunforte di Mogliano (see events calendar).
